Crest of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain

This is the crest of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth. Her full title is Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Queen Elizabeth remains a very respected and loved head of state, a position she has held since June 1953.

In 2002, Queen Elizabeth celebrated her golden jubilee of 50 years on the throne, and in 2006 her 60th birthday. Elizabeth was born on April 21, 1926 in London.

London will host the Olympic Games in 2012. It last hosted the games in 1948, after World War II when countries were recovering from the shock of war and were unwilling and unable to focus on sports.

Indeed, World War II had resulted in the cancellation of two Olympic Games. London simply volunteered its capital as host city and the International Olympic Committee willingly accepted!

The primary aim of the London Olympics back then was just to bring people together -- which perfectly encapsulates the spirit of the Ancient Greek Games -- and not to show off with glamour and glitz, which is a tendency that today's games have to resist.

I am very happy to dedicate my embroidery to Her Majesty and the City of London, the city that I love so dearly.
