Holy Mary the Merciful

I have created this embroidery to honour worldwide the birth of Jesus Christ and that he came to teach values such as love, truth and kindness to our fellow men.

The photograph top right shows the icon which my grandmother, Katerina Andreadis, had brought to Athens from Smyrna, Asia Minor in 1922. She was very young when Smyrna was destroyed in a fierce massacre by the Turks and all were subsequently Greeks expelled from the area.

The embroidery, mounted on a card, will be presented as a gift to His Beatitude Christodoulos, Archbishop of Athens and All Greece.

When I was making it I held in my mind the visitors of differing colours, religions and educational backgrounds who have kindly sent messages to me. I would like to offer a special thanks to them.
