Happy Easter, Mr. Sarkozy

Easter, the greatest feast day in the Christian calendar, falls on April 24, 2011.

This year Orthodox and Western Easters celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the same day.

"Western" (Catholic and Protestant) Easter and Greek Orthodox Easter coincide every few years.

We Greeks participate in the ceremony of resurrection over Sunday midnight.

So if you're not Orthodox, come to Greece this April and celebrate two Easters.

I embroidered this Easter card for Nicolas Sarkozy, president of France. He is the grandson of Jewish Greek on his mother's side from Salonika.

President Sarkozy last paid an official visit to Greece in 2008.

In 2006, while on a visit to Greece, Sarkozy was honoured by the Jewish community in Salonika.

"My roots are here," replied a visibly moved Sarkozy.
