Torchbearers of the Ancient Olympics

The founding idea of the Ancient Olympic Games was to celebrate the unity of mind and body in competition without weapons.

Winners were given a simple olive branch; as the real reward for the Olympians was the honor to compete.

In 2004, the Olympics returned to their place of origin. In celebration of their return home to Greece, I made a collection of embroideries on the theme, "Olympiad: Supreme Mind-Body Competition" which I displayed during the Athens Olympic Games.

I will create 64 embroideries on the front face of folded cards, 20 x 30 cm or larger. Inside will be a picture of the original statue or painting, from which I base the picture, along with a brief historical explanation of the image.

I plan to donate this collection to museums throughout Athens.
